Burglaries In Our Neighborhood [June 30, 2010]

LPOA members should be aware that there have been a few burglaries in, and around our neighborhood in recent weeks. Both cars and homes have been targeted. The police are aware of this and are making more patrols through our neighborhood but, if you see anyone or anything suspicious going on please call the police and they will respond. The thieves seem to be targeting vacant homes while residents are at work and are taking advantage of unsecured points of entry.

Please use your home alarms and lock your doors and windows when you leave. Do not leave unsecured ladders in your yard or by the side of your house. Do not leave any property visible in your parked car, this includes docks for your smart phone, iPod or GPS navigation device; thieves see this as a possibility that the device may have been also left in the glove-box and it costs them nothing to investigate further, however, the owner has top deal with aftermath of broken glass etc.

The following letter comes from one of our residents as an example of these recent break-ins. Let's remain vigilant and lookout for our families and neighbors:

Last night, Saturday, June 26th, someone broke in to a home on Broadmoor.

Nobody was home. It was about 8:30pm.
Laptops, some jewlery were taken. And their XBOX!
Luckily, he did not get to the main floor.

Their next door neighbor called the police.
She thought it suspicious that he had knocked on her door asking for "Stacy"...
Cops said it a ruse to see if anyone was actually home.

He used a ladder left on the side of the house and entered through the 2nd story bathroom window - which was left unlocked.
When he came down the stairs, the motion alarm went off and he bolted before police arrived.

The description of the guy was 20's, Caucasian brown scruffy beard, about 5'10".

In the entry to our alley, there was a guy matching that exact description-- sitting on his bike.
We startled him and he took off.
I called 553-0123 and the SFPD were here on 4 motorcycles within minutes.

He was also spotted him in the alley behind 44 Broadmoor moments later.
Gone by the time SFPD arrived...

Just wanted to make you aware...

Thanks
