Construction set to begin on Junipero Serra Playground! [March 21, 2007]

Junipero Serra Playground & Clubhouse Plans

Dear Friends,

We are immensely pleased to send the following note from Meghan Tiernan, the new project manager for the Junipero Serra Playground renovation. As you will see, construction is set to begin this Monday, March 26. In addition, Rec/Park and the San Francisco Art Commission will host a public meeting on Thursday, April 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (location TBA) to offer an update on the project, including a construction timeline, and to introduce the community to the artist the San Francisco Art Commission has selected to create a public art project on the grounds of Junipero Serra Playground. The artist's name is Bean Finneran. At the April 19 meeting, all community members will be able to provide input to the artist on the art she will create as part of the JSP renovation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know or contact Meghan Tiernan at the email address or phone number she has provided below.

Now without further adieu, here is Meghan's message:

The Contractor is going to begin construction the Junipero Serra Playground and Clubhouse project on Monday, March 26th. He will be closing off access to the playground and clubhouse at the sidewalk to prevent access into the construction site. It will be necessary for him to completely close offaccess completely on one day, possibly Thursday, so that they can demolish the roof. Since the roof overhangs a portion of the sidewalk they need to close it off during roof demolition to that passersby are not injured. Students will not be able to cut through the park site that day and will have to detour around the site on surface streets. The Contractor will post signs to that effect.

The Contractor also wanted to note that the roof demolition crew wears full disposable suits, or "moonsuits". He says this usually prompts calls from concerned neighbors and thinks it's a good idea to let people know in advance that the suits are for work procedure not for contamination purposes. If any neighbors are concerned please let them know they can contact me directly and I'd be happy to answer and questions they may have.

Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns. Thanks.

I wish to make a complaint against the property owner(s) at 45 Stonecrest. The property is now in serious disrepair and an eyesore to the community and neighborhood. Please advise me how to make this complaint and what response I can expect.
