Spring 2007 Newsletter [February 22, 2007]
Dear Members of the LPOA:
Happy New Year! This will serve as our quarterly newsletter to update you on several important issues, and also to send you our annual request for your dues payment. We are in the process of establishing a website for the LPOA, and that will have up-to-date information, more frequently updated. You can see a preview of the site at LakesidePOA.org and it will be completed before the General Membership Meeting (information below). For now, we will continue to rely on regular mail and your phone messages.
- The
LPOA continues to have monthly meetings, but as a result of the planned
demolition of the Junipero Serra Clubhouse, these meetings will move to
vacant offices in the Stonestown complex at 557 Buckingham Way, near the
Wells Fargo Bank. Thanks
go to Kelley Weaver, Assistant
General Manager, Stonestown Galleria,
for arranging this alternative meeting site for the LPOA Board. We
anticipate that rebuilding the JS Clubhouse will take 18 months, and so
this is a tremendous community benefit provided by Stonestown! Note:
the meeting will now be held on the second Monday of each month, 8-9 PM
- We
are sad to announce the departure of Hal Harper as President of the Board;
Hal has been tireless in his service to the community, attending numerous
outside meetings, working with the Board of Supervisors, and generally
looking out for all of us. We will miss him and wish him the best! Tom
Novotny will assume interim chair status until the upcoming General Membership
Meeting on March 4.
- The LPOA Board has scheduled the annual General Membership Meeting for
March 4, 2007, 2-4 PM at Mercy High School. As usual, we will invite
representatives from Supervisor Elsbernd’s office, the Taraval Police
Station, the Department of Public Works, and the SF Fire Department to
update us on community issues. The agenda will include:
- Review of LPOA Financial Statements (summary attached)
- Review of tree replanting options for Junipero Serra Greenbelt
- Proposal to raise LPOA dues
- Tree pruning update
- Newsletter and website update
- Setting the 2007 agenda for LPOA community projects
- Appointment of new board members and nomination of officers.
- The LPOA seeks new members to fill the nine slots on the Board. This
includes new officers (President, Vice-president, Treasurer, and Secretary)
and volunteers to help with fundraising for community projects, meetings
with the City, etc. Your community organization depends totally on voluntary
commitments, and it cannot function without involvement of community
members like you. Please consider joining the Board at the upcoming
Membership meeting for a term of one, two, or three years. Nominations
for officers will be on the agenda as well, and elections will be held
at the April Board meeting.
- Tree pruning update: Davey Tree Company began work on Lakeside tree trimming
at the end of December, and they are about halfway through the work. Approximately,
43 trees were scheduled for this year’s pruning. Their crew
also removed a severely damaged acacia tree on Broadmoor Drive and will
grind out the large stump (cost covered by LPOA). Wishing to avail
herself to the LPOA’s $100 tree subsidy program, this Broadmoor homeowner
also wants to replant a new tree (Arbutus unedo “Marina”) when
the stump removal is complete. Board member Joyce Richardson will
coordinate this with Davey Tree or City Trees and the owner.
- The annual financial statement is included as an attachment to this newsletter.
- Your 2007 dues are now payable; please remit these to the Association
post office box by check before March 1, 2007, in order to remain in good
standing. As you know, these dues go towards community betterment,
communications, insurance for our meetings, and expenses for the LPOA.
LPOA has cleared old past-due accounts by write offs of uncollectible dues,
reminder notices for late dues, and liens on property for dues more than
one year past due. A report on liens filed will be made in the quarterly
newsletter beginning Spring 2007. Notices are sent to property owners
prior to filing liens with the City.
- We look forward to your attendance at the Annual General Membership Meeting
on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Mercy High School on 19th Street,
2-4 PM. Coffee and cookies will be served. Come meet your neighbors
and contribute to the betterment of your community through the LPOA.
- The LPOA website preview is available at www.LakesidePOA.org and will be completed by the time of the meeting.
Sincerely,
Your LPOA Board: Thomas Novotny, Hal Harper, Terry Mulrooney,
Joyce Richardson, Martin Taylor, Patti Taylor, Diane Lim.
